Izmir

Izmir is the second-largest port and third largest city in Turkey with a population of approximately 2.5 million people. Izmir is located on the Aegean Sea near the Gulf of Izmir and is the capital of the Izmir Province. Easily accessible by plane, train or automobile and abundant in facilities for travelers, Izmir is an excellent tourist destination and a starting point for a journey to the famous ancient cities of Ephesus, Pergamum, Miletus, Priene and Sardis, all of which situated within easy driving distance.

Rich in history and archaeological remains, Izmir is also widely regarded as the most modern Turkish city in terms of both lifestyle and ideology. Called by many "the pearl of Aegean," Izmir is home to large palm-lined boulevards, shopping centers, hotels and restaurants. Known for its busy port and exotic views, as well as for its pleasant climate and refreshing sea breeze, Izmir turns out to be a major tourist attraction both in Turkey and in the world.
