Kas

The beautiful fishing town of Kas is situated in a beautiful bay at the skirts of the Taurus Mountains where the Aegean Sea meets the Mediterranean. Originally called Habesos and later named Antiphellos by the Lycians, the resort town of Kas has maintained its reputation as a delightful holiday destination for many years. Apart from the two gorgeous beaches of Kas, Big Pebble Beach and Little Pebble Beach, Kas is surrounded by the Taurus mountains that offer tourists walks through forested hills and visits of remote villages and ancient ruins.

There are ruins of a Hellenistic theatre, a monumental Lion Tomb but prime among the ruins are the Lycian rock-cut tombs and sarcophagi that date from the 4th century B.C and actually turn out to be the symbol of the town. To a certain extent Kas has retained its small-town charming outlook and today as you walk from the harbor towards the center of the town you see narrow cobbled streets lined with beautiful Ottoman houses with flowered balconies and skillfully painted doors. Multuple souvenir shops in Kas offer Turkish handicrafts, silver and copper items, leather goods, silk and cotton clothing, various spices, and finely woven Turkish carpets (kilims). The choice of restaurants and bars in Kas is also pretty good, there are plenty of local cafes and authentic restaurants serving delicious sea food. In conclusion, Kas offers a great combination of a pretty harbour town, lively nightlife, stunning scenery, hot sandy beaches, and fascinating history.
