Alanya

Alanya is one of the major seaside resorts of the Turkish Riviera, situated 120 km away from the city of Antalya, another major tourist destination in Turkey. Due to its naturally strategic position on a small peninsula into the Mediterranean Sea, Alanya has been an important settlement and fortification for many Mediterranean empires, especially in the Middle Ages when Alanya reached its utmost political significance.

Lying on the east side of the Gulf of Antalya, between the Taurus Mountains to the north and the Mediterranean Sea to the south, Alanya enjoys a delightful setting and a moderate Mediterranean climate of dry summers and very mild winters, which makes it perfect for both winter and summer holidays. Ataturk Boulevard that runs parallel to the sea, divides the southern, much more touristic side of Alanya from the northern, more native side that extends north into the Taurus Mountains. Exactly the presence of the Taurus Mountains in close proximity to the sea causes fog many mornings often followed by beautiful rainbows. Numerous tourists, especially Scandinavians, Germans, Russians, and Dutch, regularly chose to vacation in Alanya during the warmer months being attracted to the area by of the reasonable prices, warm weather, sandy beaches, access to Antalya's historic sites, places of natural beauty, and excellent local cuisine. Various activities include wind surfing, parasailing, banana boating and Turkey’s largest go-kart track.
