Cesme

Cesme is a resort town on the western coast of Karaburun Peninsula, surrounded by the Aegean Sea, and it is one of the districts of Izmir Province. It is an important center of international tourism in Turkey and is famous for its night clubs, endless beaches and fish restaurants. Cesme has an international harbor linked to Izmir with an excellent highway of 80 km length. Alacati, situated within a short distance of Cesme, is a windy and therefore it is a famous windsurf destination. Visitors will find excellent holiday accommodations, restaurants, various sports and entertainment facilities.

Cesme, meaning a thermal spring or a fountain in Turkish, is home to many natural sources of water. The sulfurous water there (35-50°C) is recommended for the treatment of rheumatism. In addition, cultivated fields of exotic figs, aniseed, sesame and gum trees are an essential feature of Cesme’s landscape. Rising above the sea and dominated by the walls of a medieval castle, Cesme is a top Turkish summer resort. The Cesme Castle which is one of the most important symbols of the city was ordered to be built by the Ottoman Sultan Beyazıt II in 1508 and reflects tuprical characteristics of the Ottoman architecture. All along the beautiful sandy beach of the bay you will also find wooden boats called Gulets that execute their daily cruises to the near Greek islands. Taking a swim stop at the beautiful lagoons is also possible. Thus, you can cool off and continue your cruise in the crystal clear Aegean waters all around Cesme.
