Fethiye’s geographical position along the Mediterranean coast, its favorable climate conditions, and its rich historical and cultural background make Fethiye a perfect place where one can enjoy simultaneously nature and the history. The ancient town of Telmessos was originally occupied by Lycians, after that it was conquered by the Carians, the Romans, and finally the Ottomans. Around Fethiye there are fantastic places with ancient ruins of different historical periods and at the same time lovely landscapes to admire. The Blue Lagoon offers beautiful scenery with wonderful beaches and crystal-clear waters ideal for swimming and other water sports. The contemporary town is famous for its stunning landscape of rocky cliffs and pine forests that meet with the turquoise sea, as well as for its golden beaches and exquisite remains of ancient civilizations. The main attractions of Fethiye are the rock tombs carved into the cliffs by the Lycians, the Lycian Sarcopaghi, the fortress, and the Roman theatre.
